chalk board ABC

The end of the summer is when tans fade, making sun exposure more visible and generally less attractive.

It’s the end of holiday time, whether that means going away or sitting in the sun at home and a good time to review skin condition and in particular, checking for the signs of sun damage. These may include:

  • general poor complexion – dryness or lack of radiance
  • lines and wrinkles – signs of ageing advanced by the sun
  • pigmentation problems – freckles, sun spots, brown patches, melasma
  • thread veins or spider veins
  • depletion of collagen, making the skin appear looser, less firm

Sun damage is not an inevitable fact of life, it can of course be prevented by staying in, covering up or wearing high protection sun factor. However, while it may be associated with overindulgence in sun beds or hot holidays, it can occur just as easily and perhaps without you being aware in normal everyday life.

This summer has been exceptional and most Brits have spent more time in the sun, not always adequately protected by sun cream. If you experienced the ‘glow’ of over-exposure, hot pink skin or even red sunburn, these are clear signs of sun damage; but even more modest sun exposure – just from walking the dog or popping to the shops – can precipitate sun damage.

Skin Condition Review

Dr Barbara Kubicka at Clinicbe sees an increase in patients over the autumn, who are keen to improve the condition and appearance of their skin.

A private consultation with Dr Kubicka includes a comprehensive skin review, studying the skin in the context of each patient’s unique medical history, taking account of their diet and lifestyle too.

The sun is often the main cause of deterioration in skin condition or premature ageing, but it is never too late to seek help.

Treatments that can tackle sun damage depend on the patient’s requirements.

For general complexion problems or dry skin, mesotherapy, dermaroller, chemical peels or IPL may be recommended.

Dr Kubicka’s exclusive Exquisite Facial combines chemical peels and IPL in a carefully constructed programme for the ultimate in sun damage treatment with a host of benefits including improvement in pigmentation problems as well as firmer skin.

If sun exposure has caused lines and wrinkles, then botox and fillers remain popular choices for tackling those signs of ageing.

The best results are possible when there is early intervention.
