Aqualyx® Fat Dissolving Injections – Body

Fat Dissolving Injections

Aqualyx® is an injectable fat reduction procedure, used to ‘dissolve’ stubborn pockets of fat which remain resistant to diet or exercise.

The solution contains a compound known as deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps break down and absorb dietary fat.

The Aqualyx® treatment is ideal for tackling stubborn areas of fat on the body, such as:

  • Tummy, ‘muffin top’, stomach or abdomen
  • Hips or ‘saddle bags’
  • Thighs – including inner thigh area
  • Knees
  • Buttocks
  • ‘Bingo wings’ – upper arms
  • Inner thighs
  • ‘Man boobs’

How does Aqualyx® Work?

Here’s how Aqualyx® works:

  1. Injection
Aqualyx® is injected directly into the stubborn fat deposits. The procedure is usually performed by a qualified medical professional.
  2. Fat Breakdown
Once injected, Aqualyx® acts on the adipocytes (fat cells) in the treated area. Deoxycholic acid disrupts the cell membrane of these fat cells, causing them to break down.
  3. Fat Elimination
The broken-down fat is then released into the interstitial fluid and subsequently metabolized by the body. The body naturally processes and expels the released fat through the lymphatic system.
  4. Results
Patients typically see improvements in the targeted areas within a few weeks, with optimal results often visible after a series of treatments, depending on the individual and the area being treated.
  5. Non-Surgical
Aqualyx® is a non-surgical fat reduction option, which makes it appealing for those looking to avoid more invasive procedures like liposuction.

It’s important to note that while Aqualyx® can be effective for localised fat reduction, it is not a weight-loss treatment and should not replace a healthy lifestyle. It’s also essential to consult a healthcare professional to determine whether Aqualyx® is the right option for your specific needs and to discuss potential side effects or risks associated with the treatment.

Aqualyx® Injections FAQ

Why does the body store fat and why is it so difficult to shift?

The human body is designed to store fat in certain areas as an ‘emergency ration’. Fat cells in the deep subcutaneous tissue are difficult to diminish. Aqualyx® literally reduces the amount of fat cells in those areas most resistant to toning.

What happens when Aqualyx® is injected?

Aqualyx® injections liquefy the fat cells, destroying them permanently and releasing lipids which are then expelled by the body through the lymphatic system.

Can I ease off on diet/exercise after treatment?

We do not recommend Aqualyx as an alternative to an active lifestyle and a healthy diet. It is here to address stubborn areas of localised fat.

What is in Aqualyx injections?

Aqualyx® is based on a formulation containing deoxycholic acid. This is a secondary bile acid which the body naturally produces to liquefy the fat in the gut.

Are there any side-effects?

There is often some localised swelling and reddening after treatment and we advise patients that there may be some bruising for a few days. Some level of inflammation is expected, as it shows that the body's responses are being triggered to produce new collagen and elastin. This causes skin tightening for a smoother, tighter finish.
