A large study by Northwestern University in America has found that minor cosmetic procedures such as botox, fillers and laser procedures lack risk of serious adverse events, making them ‘exceedingly safe’.
The study looked at over 20,000 procedures and is believed to be the first major study into adverse events of this scale. Potential side effects such as bruising, redness, swelling and bumpiness or pigmentation occurred in less than than 1% of patients and were found to clear up on their own.
Professor Murad Alam from the University’s Dermatology department explained:
“The message for patients is that if you are thinking of getting one of these procedures, you are not indulging in something drastic or high risk. The take home is these procedures are very safe and can be mixed and matched to give the individual a significant cosmetic benefit, rather than getting one big cosmetic procedure that might be risky.”
