Pigmentation Problems

skin conditionsMelasma, also called Chloasma, is a common skin pigmentation problem usually affecting the face.

The condition causes noticeably darker patches of skin which can vary from light to dark brown or greyish.

The pigmentation is not dangerous at all – it isn’t an allergy, is not cancerous and can’t be caught. Nonetheless, melasma is a very difficult to live with.  Appearing on the face, it is very obvious to others and hard to hide with makeup.

It tends to improve in winter, but worsens with sun exposure. Sun is a definite factor, but hormonal drugs or pregnancy can also trigger it, as can stress.

Melasma Treatments

Professional Treatments

Dr Barbara Kubicka at Clinicbe® in London has developed a new treatment for improving melasma, which combines two approaches for improving the skin’s health from within, creating a greater impact:

  1. CCR – Mesoestetics C-Prof is a professional depigmentation solution which powerfully combines tranexamic acid, nicotinamide, n-acetyl glucosamine and vitamin C. These active ingredients can whiten the skin not through bleaching but by correctin pigmentary alterations and antioxidising for a more even skin tone
  2. DermaStamp – the use of localised microneedling stimulates the skin’s renewal processes while allowing serums and solutions to penetrate more deeply into the skin, where they can have a greater effect

Skin Care At Home

Alongside professional treatments, Dr Kubicka advocates an appropriate daily regime of suitable skincare products.  In particular, the clinic offer 2 regimes which have been designed to improve melasma, combining in-clinic peels or treatments with a follow-up programme of treatment at home

  1. ME LINE – a professional peel specifically designed for melasma, followed by an at-home aftercare routine
  2. Dermamelan – a mask treatment carried out in clinic followed by at-home skincare regime

Every patient is different with a unique set of requirements. The consultation is the starting point, with discussion of the problems and what the patient is trying to achieve as well as a medical review; after which the doctor can recommend the most appropriate treatments.
