An article in the Sunday Times has highlighted industry insiders’ fears that the lack of regulation of dermal fillers could be a scandal waiting to happen in cosmetic surgery and treatments.
A comprehensive report by Sir Bruce Keogh was published earlier this year, recommending regulations to make facial filler practice safer. These included:
- making dermal fillers a prescription medication
- qualifications for anyone giving cosmetic treatment
- a professional register for those practising
However, these regulations have not yet been put into practise. In fact, Rajiv Grover, president of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), told the Sunday Times that he did not believe the necessary legislation would be introduced until 2015.
Former BAAPs president Norman Whitehouse said:
“We have had no implementation [of regulations] at all. Botox has become demedicalised. My local hairdresser has a Botox practitioner in to give Botox in the basement. Fillers are not even prescription medications.”
Dermal Fillers Doctor London
Until new industry legislation is introduced, patients seeking facial fillers can choose experienced professionals who operate from established clinics.
Dr Barbara Kubicka is a qualified doctor who works from her Knightsbridge clinic. She has dedicated her career to aesthetic skin treatments, pursuing specialist studies in Paris after qualifying as a doctor.
Her artistic flair, combined with fine understanding of anatomy and physiology, make her uniquely placed to practice facial fillers that are natural-looking yet effective anti-ageing treatments.
Dr Kubicka founded Clinicbe to offer a new holistic approach to skincare treatments; treating the patient as a whole in order to get the best possible results from any treatments they may have. Private consultations include individual advice on nutrition and lifestyle to help tackle skincare issues from within and compliment professional treatments. In addition, Dr Kubicka can prescribe or recommend the most appropriate professional skincare for use at home. Popular treatments include Botox injections and dermal fillers as well as mesotherapy and dermaroller.
