Male Rosacea Symptoms & Treatment

rosacea in men

Rosacea is a skin condition that is most commonly characterised by redness with flushing, inflammation and flare-ups.

It may affect women more, but tends to be more severe in men.

Rosacea is affects the central face, and tends to develop after the age of 30, getting ‘ruddier’ over time as more visible blood vessels appear.

Other symptoms similar to acne often develop too, with spots and enlarged pores.

One of the symptoms more commonly seen in men affects the nose, which becomes redder and also enlarged due to thicker skin. This can be unsightly and has an unwelcome association with heavy drinking.

Around half of rosacea patients also experience irritation of their eyes with inflamed eyelids and watery or bloodshot eyes.

The Impact of Rosacea

The National Rosacea Society (NRS) has carried out surveys showing:

  • Nearly 90% said rosacea negatively affected confidence and self-esteem
  • 41% reported it had caused them to avoid public contact or cancel social engagements
  • Nearly 88% of severe rosacea sufferers said it affected their professional interactions,

HOWEVER – the good news is over 70% or rosacea patients said that treatment had improved their emotional and social well-being – as well as their skin.

Rosacea Treatments for Men

Clinicbe MenZone offers a number of treatment options for male rosacea patients.

Rosacea symptoms vary widely and the first step is a consultation to enable Dr Barbara Kubicka to fully understand the condition in order to make the best recommendations.

These may include:

  • Topical skincare – prescription-only products and cosmeceutical skincare regimes can make a big difference, providing daily at-home care which is tailored to the skin’s needs and often contains active ingredients not available over the counter or on the high street. These need not be complicated. A simple wash, serum and cream don’t take long, but over time the benefits can build up
  • Medical facials – again these are tailor-made to the client’s requirements. Medical facials carried out in the clinic may include use of the latest technology such as IPL (intense pulsed light) to stimulate the skin’s recovery and healing mechanisms
  • Mesotherapy – Dr Barbara Kubicka is renowned for her use of this treatment which uses multiple tiny injections or a carefully chosen solution to boost the skin’s condition from within, aiding healing and recovery for clearer and brighter skin
  • Supplements – sometimes an oral supplement can make a big difference. This can be assessed using the OligoScan advanced cellular testing. Vitamin injections may also be offered as appropriate
