PDO and PLLA Thread Lifts at CQC-Regulated Clinic

Clinicbe london

A thread lift is one of the most remarkable anti-ageing treatments, offering results that can rival those of surgery thanks to the insertion of threads that provide a physical and structural ‘lift’ for sagging facial tissues.

It is the insertion of threads that caused the CQC (Care Quality Commission) to classify this procedure as cosmetic surgery in 2019, which means that clinics must be registered with the CQC and subject to its standards in order to offer thread lift.

The CQC website states:

“We regulate cosmetic treatments carried on by a health care professional that involve surgical procedures.

“By law, services have to register with us if they offer…

“…all types of thread lifting – for example, polydioxanone (PDO) and poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) thread lifting”

Following the CQC announcement about regulation of thread lifts, a number of doctors and skin clinics simply stopped offering the thread lift, limiting their work to injectable or energy-based treatments instead (e.g. IPL/laser/radiofrequency); as these do not require CQC registration.

However, Clinicbe® is fully registered with the CQC and has for many years been pleased to work to the stringent standards involved. The clinic is delighted to be among the elite offering thread lifts, as it believes they offer unique advantages to clients seeking a more dramatic rejuvenation without the cost, risk and hassle of surgery.

Dr Kubicka says:

“Being registered with the Care Quality Commission is something that many clinics choose not to do due to the cost, work and high standards involved. For many, it is not a legal requirement and many clinics and salons prefer not to be held to account in this way or to have their reports published.

“However, at Clinicbe®, we believe it is very important. It is a way of demonstrating publicly that we meet high standards. Patients are reassured to be able to review  CQC reports and understand the standards that have to be met.

“Extending our registration to include thread lifting was a natural move for us and essential in order to be able to offer this effective and versatile procedure, which has been popular with so many of our clientele.”

Thread lifts at Clinicbe®

The clinic offers two types of thread lift procedure:

Both of these use tiny threads, inserted under the surface of the skin to lift and manipulate the skin tissues into a higher and more youthful position. In both cases, the threads break down under the skin, triggering localised collagen building and cell renewal processes that enhance the result, causing the skin to become firmer, tighter and smoother.

Thread lifting is not only effective in facial rejuvenation, but can also be used to lift and refresh the jawline, jowls, neck, buttocks, arms, lips, knees and more.

Results tend to last around 18 months for PDO threads and 24 months for PLLA threads.

Clinicbe® founder Dr Barbara Kubicka explains:

“The clinic has always been keen to offer a broad range of procedures in order to provide the best solution and advice for each individual client.

“Thread lifts are an excellent option for providing an anti-ageing ‘lift’ to the facial tissues which also boosts collagen for a natural-looking refreshment of the face. Removal of this option from the range of treatments would have been to the detriment of patients for whom it is a beneficial solution to sagging tissues.

“The thread lift occupies a unique place in our anti-ageing offering. It provides more structure than even advanced injectable procedures such as the Nefertiti lift or liquid face lift using advanced dermal fillers. Yet it delivers a much softer and more natural look than a full surgical face lift with much faster recovery.”
