Spring Skin Recovery Plan

spring skin recovery planThe cold winter weather can wreak havoc with your skin, causing a host of issues from thread veins and blemishes to acne flareups and rosacea. So now spring is on its way, what can we do to improve the skin?

Firstly, it’s good to understand how winter affects the skin. Dr Barbara Kubicka explains how months of cold weather can cause dryness and vein problems:

“Wind and cold temperatures affect skin in a significant way. The effects on the skin will depend on an individual’s sensitivity but generally, it dries the skin making it rough and uneven in texture.

“The winter condition will affect capillaries making the skin more prone to redness, sometimes resulting in little broken capillaries, thread veins and spider veins as they are called by some.

“Also, as many of us have noticed, it makes the skin on our lips very dry, making them cracked and sore.”

With warmer weather on its way, now’s the time to take action and help your skin to recover.

1/ Everyday Skin Protection

Best practice and good skincare habits can make a real difference in the condition of your skin

  • Don’t be tempted to reach for the lighter moisturiser just yet. Using a heavier moisturiser will help dried out skin to recover by creating a barrier.
  • Lips will benefit from an indulgent hydration product – consider Be Juicy, Clinicbe’s own lip balm product, which is packed with ultra moisturising agents to leave lips feeling and looking softer and healthier
  • If you’ve stopped using sun protection, start again right now. Using a daily SPF sunscreen is vital to avoid sun damage, which is the number one cause of premature ageing
  • Using a glycolic wash can help to boost cell turnover as well as keeping skin super clean. It can also help if you’re prone to acne flareups, but ensure you choose a gentle product as overly harsh acid-based cleansing products can actually cause a reaction
  • Treat yourself to an occasional mask or face pack. Depending on what you choose, these can improve pores or deeply hydrate skin

Dr Kubicka has shared professional advice on good ingredients to look for to help boost tired and dry skin:

“Face oils with vitamin E and a soothing, calming vitamin B complex, like panthenol. Also, niacinamide and zinc are key ingredients to look out for in your skincare.”

2/ Targeted Professional Treatments

If winter has left its mark on your skin, there are a host of in-clinic treatments that could boost its condition as well as tackling specific concerns. Some specific suggestions include:

  • Plasma shower acne treatment to calm flareups by destroying excess bacteria and promoting healing
  • Rosacea treatment plans designed to to soothe redness and flushing
  • ThermaVein to tackle thread veins and redness
  • IPL (intense pulsed light) treatment to boost cell renewal, promote tightness, reduce pigmentation and also reduce thread veins
