Hair Loss & Scalp Treatments

About Hair Loss

  • Hair loss affects 70% of men during their lifetime
  • However, many men start to lose their hair earlier
    • 40% of men have noticeable hair loss by age 35
    • 65% are affected by the age of 60
    • 80% of men have obvious hair loss by the age of 80
  • Hair is often associated with virility, youth and energy. Therefore losing one’s hair is often not only a physical issue, but one which can be accompanied by sadness, confidence issues and even depression
  • Hair loss in men is usually caused by a combination of hormonal changes and genetic predisposition. However, it is also sensitive to stress

Non-Surgical Hair Loss Treatment

  • Non-surgical treatments are a very appealing option for tackling hair loss
  • Making the most of your own hair
  • Most natural results possible
  • Treatments can be carried out individually or in combination, where a better result may be achievable

PRP – Platelet Rich Plasma

  • Uses a highly purified sample of the patient’s own blood
  • A special process is carried out to extract concentrated plasma, packed with platelet growth factors
  • The Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is applied to the patient’s scalp
  • PRP can then work within the scalp and skin to boost the body’s own repair mechanisms
  • A healthier scalp is very helpful to hair retention and regrowth

Mesotherapy

  • Mesotherapy is a process which involves a series of tiny injections
  • In the case of hair loss, the doctor may inject PRP (as above) or else other carefully chosen nutrients or solutions to nourish the skin
  • The objective is to boost the health of the scalp and stimulate hair retention and regrowth

Vitamin Supplements:

  • Vitamin deficiency can be a cause of hair loss.  This may be established using OligoScan spectrometry testing or other tests
  • Dr Barbara Kubicka can prescribe vitamins known to promote healthy hair and scalp (skin). These may be taken orally or given by injection, depending on the vitamins required

Frequently Asked Questions

We will not treat patients under the age of 18. Our consultation will also include discussion of any conditions or medications which may make treatment inadvisable; although this is rarely the case.

Your consultation will always include full discussion of any potential side effects or complications, so that you have the full information before deciding whether to go ahead. See the individual treatment pages for more information.

This is a matter of personal choice, but toupes and wigs not a popular choice nowadays as a solution for hair loss. They look unnatural and are hot and uncomfortable to wear. Equally the ‘comb over’ hairstyle is no longer in vogue, as people recognise it as a sign of hair loss. It is far more common to bravely sport a super-short haircut – the ‘number one all over’. However, this does not suit all men, which is why many seek treatment for their hair loss.

Hair transplantation is much better than it was, but it is expensive and not always successful. Bear in mind that hair around the transplanted follicles will continue to grow and be lost at different rates. This means that results can be patchy and clumpy over the long run. Many hair loss surgeons recommend their patients to take hair loss medication for life in order to maintain the best result. So a hair transplant is not an alternative to medication – it can actually be a precursor to it. Non-surgical hair treatments can also be used alongside hair transplantation.
