Intravenous Nutrient Therapy or IVNT may also be referred to as IV vitamin therapy or intravenous vitamin infusion.

It has also been referred to as ‘vitamin drips’, as it involves the intravenous delivery of nutrients and vitamins to boost a patient’s health and wellbeing.

IVNT is an intravenous treatment that supplies the body with necessary vitamins and minerals directly to the bloodstream through a liquid solution in order to replenish deficiencies or aid in healing. IVNT FAQ

Oral supplements are widely taken to address deficiencies. These are absorbed in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and pass through the liver, where biotransformation significantly reduces bio-availability of the nutrient.

IVNT bypasses GI absorption and biotransformation in the liver; which ensures bio-availability of the micronutrients in high concentrations (not bound to plasma proteins) for fast results.

Injectable micronutrients are not affected by stomach or intestinal absorption problems, but concentrations are much lower than intravenous administration and absorption into venous blood is much slower too.

Intravenous infusion is a highly efficient way of providing additional nutrients to the tissues. IV nutrients are forced into cells by means of a high plasma concentration gradient combined with microcirculation vasodilation. In addition, higher IV nutrient concentrations can be given than is possible by mouth without the intestinal side effects (e.g. high magnesium or vitamin C tablets can cause diarrhoea).

Prior to IVNT it’s important that you consent your GP or Consultant to discuss any issues or/and do following blood tests: FBC, kidney function, liver function test, G6PD.

The UK MHRA currently classifies IntraVita products as supplements providing that no medical claims are made about their uses. IVNT was pioneered by Dr John Myers, who gave intravenous infusions containing vitamins and nutrients to his patients. After his death, Dr Alan Gaby continued and expanded the treatment with an adapted version of the ‘Myers’ Cocktail’, a formulation said to contain vitamins B6 , B12, C and B complex, magnesium chloride, calcium gluconate, thiamine, calcium panthothenate and diluted hydrochloric acid.
