Trichoscopy Hair & Scalp Health Assessment

Clinicbe based in Knightsbridge, London, now offer trichoscopy for detailed hair and scalp analysis.

A good thorough diagnosis with precise and detailed understanding a person’s hair loss is crucial to establishing the most appropriate treatment. Hair loss is very unique and the exact causes and nature of the condition can vary widely.

Trichoscopy is a specialist device that can take highly magnified images of the scalp and hair follicle. This enables the doctor to visually determine scalp and hair root health. Using detailed study of the trichoscopy images means that our hair specialist can not only better understand the current hair loss situation, assessing the individual against that of normal hair, which would be:

  • Hair density: 200 follicles / cm2
  • Number of hairs: 80-120,000 vital terminal hairs
  • Hair life cycle: 2-6 years
    • Anagen – growth phase (3–6 years)
    • Catagen – transition phase (1–2 weeks)
    • Telogen – resting before falling out (2–4 months)
  • Hair growth rate: 0.3mm per day / 1cm per month
  • Normal shedding: up to 100 hairs per day

Doctors may also be able to use this information to understand how the situation is likely to develop and change in the future. Interventions can then be planned based on precise and accurate diagnosis of the individual’s hair loss.
