Dr Kubicka commented that it has been 'the norm' to dye grey hair for many years - particularly for women keen to retain a more youthful appearance. However, she noted a shift towards embracing natural hair including colour. She says this is
"...supported by a broader trend valuing authenticity, self-acceptance, and challenging traditional beauty standards."
Dr Kubicka concluded:
"Celebrities play a significant role in shaping beauty standards and trends, influencing perceptions of grey hair. "Public figures who embrace their natural hair or choose distinctive styles inspire fans and the broader public to follow suit, fostering a more inclusive conversation about ageing and beauty and encouraging others to embrace their natural hair."
Golden Ratio
The Daily Mail feature also explored the role of the golden ratio - mathematical proportions which are thought to relate to attractiveness. The principal is that where ratios/proportions are closer to the number 1.62, they appear more aesthetically balanced and therefore more attractive. The golden ratio was used by Leonardo Da Vinci for a number of his most famous works and occurs in nature as well as in art.
